Seven nights working the hide complex Bence Máté built on his family farm in the Kiskunság — over 25 purpose-built hides including four drinking stations, five for European Roller, six for Hoopoe, two for Bee-eater, one for Kingfisher, two for ground squirrel, plus a tower hide, a shore hide, a cinema hide for otters and the large theatre hide. Máté is the only photographer to have won both Young Wildlife Photographer of the Year and Wildlife Photographer of the Year, and he pioneered the one-way glass that makes these hides work. No universal credential — a published portfolio and a Wildlife Photographer of the Year placing are the real currency. BA (Hons) Marine & Natural History Photography (Falmouth) is the nearest formal route. · Certifying body: No universal body — portfolio and prize based. SINWP offers voluntary nature/wildlife qualifications, PPA a general Certified Professional Photographer credential, and NANPA is the main association. Wildlife Photographer of the Year (Natural History Museum, London) is the recognised summit.
